Woven Roots Farm is hiring!

Two Seasonal Positions: mid-April thru November, about 40 hours/week

One Seasonal Position: approximately mid-May thru mid-August (following the high school or college calendar)

Compensation: $16-$18/hour depending on experience; additional benefits including workwear and educational stipends; fresh produce; and 20% off all farm workshops, events, and farm store products

Woven Roots Farm is a no-till, hand-scale vegetable farm and community center located on unceded Mohican homelands in so-called Tyringham, MA. Through a deep relationship with the land and one another, we at Woven Roots are committed to nourishing and empowering our team and community members by co-creating equitable pathways to be better caretakers of the earth and one another.

Now in our 25th season, we provide food to over 1,600 people each week through our equitable sliding-scale CSA program and local wholesale accounts.

We are seeking curious, thoughtful, hard-working folx who live within a commutable distance to join our crew. We aspire to provide opportunities, first and foremost, to qualified marginalized individuals, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+. Until our industry is reflective of all genders, sexualities, and races, we will strive to provide opportunity and equity to those who are not seen or given a chance in this white-centered, heteronormative industry. Farming is hard work regardless of identity, and we are dedicated to creating a work environment that is positive, safe, and fulfilling for all.

Work at Woven Roots Farm is diverse and finds rhythms with the seasons. The length of the workday varies, but we maintain a roughly 40-hour work week, working 8:30 am-5 pm Monday through Friday. The workday includes a half-hour unpaid lunch and a 15-minute paid break. Employees are often called upon to do various jobs in all kinds of weather. This position requires hard physical stamina, creativity, collective care, and patience.

Our ideal crew member:

  • is excited about working on a small diversified vegetable farm where you get to participate in all aspects of no-till vegetable production (seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, washing, trellising, mulching, etc)

  • does not mind—or even enjoys!—working outside in all safe weather conditions, including hot summer sun, cold rains, and frosty mornings

  • has reliable transportation and a commitment to showing up to work on time

  • does not mind repetitive tasks, some requiring dexterity and some requiring physical strength

  • is comfortable working alone and collaboratively

  • is willing to ask questions, and receive and offer feedback

  • is able to lift heavy loads of 25-50 lbs

  • has respect for the land, co-workers, and more-than-human beings, and enthusiastically sets and respects boundaries

  • has the ability to monitor and be transparent about their needs and capacity

  • has a strong desire to learn and be engaged in thoughtful discussions and self-reflection

  • is open-minded and curious, committed to understanding both individual and collective interests and needs in our marginalized communities

  • has a willingness to create equitable and participatory practices that build resilience in our community

  • wants to be part of a tight-knit team that gets a lot done and eats incredible veggies!

I've learned so much about agriculture and life in general from the farm and the people that are a part of its community. The work leaves me tired but incredibly satisfied at the end of the day. Being employed at Woven Roots is so much more than a job for me.”
